A recent survey by Preply, an online language learning platform, discovered that over 30% of parents with children in kindergarten to 12th grade support the use of slang in classrooms and believe it should even be included in school curricula. The survey, which interviewed more than 1,000 parents, aimed to explore attitudes towards slang and its impact on learning and writing skills in young students. Sylvia Johnson, Preply’s Language and Intercultural Skills Expert, suggests that banning slang outright may hinder language development and cultural expression, emphasizing that slang is a vital aspect of linguistic evolution and offers students opportunities to engage with language in a dynamic and meaningful way.
