< 1 min read

The All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG) is advocating for a comprehensive review of Ghana’s free senior high school (SHS) policy to enhance its effectiveness. General Secretary Mr. Albert Amoah praised the policy’s implementation by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) but highlighted significant challenges it faces. He pointed out difficulties faced by some policy beneficiaries in advancing academically after SHS, including struggles in tertiary education and poor performance at universities. Amoah emphasized the need to prioritize technical and vocational education alongside traditional academic pathways to better support students’ diverse career aspirations. He called for adjustments to the policy to optimize its outcomes and ensure broader educational success for all students.
