State regulator temporarily shuts down Genius Childcare centre in Blair Athol

A childcare centre in Adelaide’s north has been temporarily shut down by the state regulator in a “very rare” use of its powers over a spate of alleged issues including cleanliness.

The state’s independent regulator, the Education Standards Board, issued an emergency action notice on January 31, to the Genius Childcare centre in Blair Athol, forcing it to close while the issues are addressed.

According to the board’s website, an emergency action notice is issued to an approved provider when the board is satisfied that a service is “operating in a manner that poses an immediate risk to the safety, health or wellbeing of children attending a service”, and requires action to be taken in 14 days or less to “remove or reduce the risk”.
