Teenage Perceptions of Household Chaos Predict Mental Health Challenges in Early Adulthood

< 1 min read

A recent study published in Psychological Science reveals that teenagers who perceive their homes as chaotic are more likely to experience mental health issues in adulthood. The research, using data from the Twins Early Development Study in England and Wales, focused on twins to control for genetic and environmental factors. It found that adolescents who viewed their households as disorganized or hectic reported more mental health and behavioral problems in early adulthood. These findings highlight the long-term impact of perceived household chaos on mental health outcomes, independent of family socioeconomic status.
