Maas, an author whose books have faced bans in other states for alleged inappropriate content. Library media specialist Abigail Wilcox cited several reasons for the removals: objectionable content, age, outdated information, lack of checkouts, and poor condition. Although this practice is routine, it has raised concerns about censorship, particularly regarding First Amendment rights. Board member Milly Smith discussed Wilcox’s recommendations, noting that while Wilcox supports some of these books, she believes they aren’t suitable for a school setting.
