‘We Nicknamed it Eddy’: what do Schools and Teachers Think of AI in Classrooms?

Since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, educators worldwide have been exploring the implications of generative AI for classrooms, with mixed feelings of anxiety and optimism. While universities have received significant attention regarding AI’s impact, schools have been less scrutinized. In Australia, most states initially banned generative AI tools in government schools, but South Australia took a different approach by launching a trial with its own AI tool, EdChat, in 2023. This tool, developed in collaboration with Microsoft, includes features to protect student privacy and block inappropriate content.
