World Book Day: Why schools are asking pupils not to wear costumes of their favourite characters

Schools across London are ditching the dress-up plans this World Book Day, asking children to wear pyjamas or dress as a word to try and help reduce the costs for families. It is traditional for children to dress up as their favourite book character for the event, which is taking place today (Thursday, March 6), and aims to promote reading for pleasure.
