Child Abduction

Shock in Zamfara as Bandits Invade Student Residence, Kidnap Seven Polytechnic Students

The abduction of seven students from Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State has renewed concerns about the safety of students. The incident highlights persistent child and youth protection risks in high-insecurity areas.

Suspected bandits invaded a student residence in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town. The attack happened at night. Six students remain in captivity after one escaped.

Security sources said the attackers targeted the off-campus residence directly. One student reportedly left the door open while stepping outside. The intruders then entered the building.

This situation exposes a major safeguarding gap. Off-campus housing often lacks adequate security compared to school hostels. As a result, students face higher exposure to attacks.

Local authorities confirmed the incident and deployed security agencies immediately. The Local Government Chairman assured residents that rescue operations are ongoing. He said efforts focus on safe recovery of the students.

Police authorities also confirmed the abduction. They deployed tactical units, including the Violent Crime Response Unit and military personnel. Officials said teams are working to track the suspects.

A student source confirmed that one abducted person escaped during the incident. The remaining six include both male and female students. Families now wait anxiously for updates.

Community groups expressed concern over repeated attacks in the area. They warned that continuous insecurity affects learning and student welfare. Fear now shapes daily student life.

Child and youth protection experts stress the need for stronger safeguards. They recommend secure housing, better surveillance, and rapid emergency response systems.

As rescue operations continue, stakeholders call for urgent reforms. They argue that student safety must become a priority in high-risk regions.
