Usain Bolt Donates $2M to Alma Mater for CHAMPS Preparation

Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to young athletes by donating $2,000,000 to his alma mater, William Knibb Memorial High School, to support preparations for the upcoming ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys & Girls Championships (CHAMPS).
Despite any personal challenges, Bolt sent a clear message to the school, “No matter what is happening to me, I am still committed to my school. I am still committed to contributing to the school. Whatever is happening to me, whatever I am missing right now does not have to affect the commitment, and I’ve donated $2,000,000 for CHAMPS.”
It was at William Knibb Memorial that Bolt’s world-class speed was first discovered when his cricket coach encouraged him to try track and field. Coached by Pablo McNeil and Dwayne Jarrett, Bolt won his first CHAMPS medal in 2001, claiming silver in the 200m with a time of 22.04s. That foundation paved the way for him to become the fastest man in history and the greatest track athlete of all time.
With Bolt’s generous donation, William Knibb athletes can now prepare to shine at CHAMPS, set to take place from March 25–29 at the newly refurbished National Stadium in Kingston. As the world’s premier high school track and field competition, CHAMPS continues to unearth Jamaica’s next generation of stars, and Bolt’s contribution ensures that the legacy lives on.
