Lindsay Clancy Lawyer Seeks Trump’s Help Despite State Charges After Mistrial
The attorney for Lindsay Clancy has requested that President Donald Trump intervene in his client’s case, even though he admits that the president can’t pardon her since she’s facing state charges.
The request comes days after Clancy’s trial over the deaths of her three children ended in a mistrial when jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. The jury was reportedly evenly divided, 11-1.
Clancy is charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of her children Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months. She has confessed to killing the children, but has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, claiming she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, told WBZ-TV that he appealed to Trump for influence, not a pardon.
Reddington said he was aware that Trump has no power to pardon Clancy because the charges are under Massachusetts law. He said, however, that the president could help bring the case to light and possibly inspire Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz to intervene.
The development comes after a previous warning by Patrick Clancy’s lawyer about online conspiracy theories surrounding the deaths of his three children. Patrick has been accused of being involved in their deaths, which his lawyer has called defamatory.
Cruz has yet to decide whether Clancy will face a second trial. Reddington said he would not accept a plea deal that would allow Clancy to spend any time in prison, saying that he believed she was mentally ill when her children died.
The next hearing is set for September 29.
