WAEC Shuts Result Portal Due to Technical Glitch

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily shut down its result-checking portal due to technical difficulties, just hours after the release of the 2025 WASSCE results.
In a statement posted on WAEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday evening, the Council announced: “WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues. However, the Council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours. Please bear with us.”
The unexpected shutdown has left thousands of candidates unable to access their results, sparking frustration across social media platforms. Users have reported persistent error messages and server timeouts.
While WAEC has not revealed the specific cause of the disruption, it has assured the public that restoration efforts are ongoing.
The incident follows a surge in online traffic after WAEC officially released the 2025 results on Monday.
As of press time, no further updates have been issued. Candidates are advised to monitor WAEC’s official communication channels for the latest information.
Beyond the technical setback, the disruption raises concerns about its impact on students’ rights. According to international human rights standards, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to education and access to timely information.
For thousands of candidates, these results are not just data, they are gateways to further education, scholarship opportunities, and career decisions.
