Why 17 Rescued Chikbok Girls, Leah Sharibu, Cannot be Released to Their Parents

Recent revelations shed light on why the 17 rescued Chibok schoolgirls and their children remain in the custody of the Borno state government under Prof. Umaru Zulum, rather than being with their parents. Allegedly, officials of the Borno state government are aware of Leah Sharibu’s whereabouts in Maiduguri and are reportedly negotiating her reunion with her parents.

According to activist Rev. Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, the government hesitated to publicly announce Leah Sharibu’s rescue because she refused to convert to Islam and would not agree to stay in their custody like the other rescued Chibok schoolgirls.

Rev. Ali Dikwa, Director General of the Centre for Justice on Religious and Ethnicity in Nigeria, claims that the Borno state government is taking instructions from supposedly repentant Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, attributing it to one of the reasons  the government has refused to release 17 rescued Chibok schoolgirls and their children to their parents.

The political leaders of Borno State allegedly enlisted Islamic clerics to indoctrinate the rescued Chibok schoolgirls with radical Islamic teachings. These clerics convinced the girls that by accepting Islam, they now had new parents among the Muslim political leaders of Borno State.

They were taught Islamic principles and made to believe that Allah had united them with their new “Islamic family,” promising them a prosperous future. This manipulation aimed to prevent the girls from returning to their Christian parents and faith, ensuring their allegiance to Islam and the political leaders of Borno State.

Some claim that the federal government paid “bride prices” to Chibok community leaders for the kidnapped girls during President Jonathan’s administration. Borno Muslim politicians and “repentant” terrorists reportedly refer to this money as payment for the girls’ marriages.

A woman named Malama Kande reportedly stated that her brothers and thousands of other terrorists in Sambisa Forest and Gwoza hills are communicating with “repentant” terrorists about agreements with the Borno state government.
