12-Year-Old Boy Killed by Stray Bullet During Cult Clash

A 12-year-old boy named Wasiu was tragically killed by a stray bullet during a cult clash in the Olosha area of Mushin, Lagos. The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Wednesday when rival cult groups engaged in a violent confrontation.
Wasiu had gone out to buy food from a vendor when the gunfire erupted, and he was caught in the crossfire while trying to flee to safety. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as residents ran for cover and businesses shut down.
Wasiu’s lifeless body was found after the violence subsided. Efforts to get him medical attention at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) failed, as the hospital gates were locked and the route was unsafe due to the continued presence of armed cult members.
Residents have raised concerns about increasing cult-related violence in the area, which has left the community living in fear. One resident noted that the area had been under attack in recent days, with gunshots ringing out for hours on the night of the incident. Many lamented that the boy might have survived if he had received prompt medical help.
Cult clashes like this put entire communities at risk, not just rival groups but innocent people, including children. Wasiu’s death is a painful reminder of how unsafe environments destroy young lives and futures. We must do more to make our neighborhoods safe, so God”s precious can grow, learn, and thrive without the constant threat of violence.
