15-Year-Old Begs for Protection as Mother Allegedly Attacks Her with Knife in Lagos

LAGOS, Nigeria – A 15-year-old girl has become the face of a failing child protection system after a viral video showed her mother allegedly straddling her and holding a knife to her following a severe beating at their residence on 32 Tashoro Street, off Ayobo Road, near Ipaja, Lagos State.

The home she expected to be her safest haven turned into a scene of terror early Wednesday morning. The teenager, whose identity has been withheld for her safety, was seen in the disturbing footage pinned down by her mother, dressed in a yellow shirt, while a knife was brandished above her. Bystanders rushed to intervene, but the girl’s current condition remains unclear.

The video, shared on X by user @Dir_Martinsz, who wrote, “A 15 years old is mistreated and abused by her mother. And stab the 15 years old girl. Please let nigeria come for her rescue and tag right authorities. check quote for video The location is 32 tashoro street, opeki bus stop off ayobo road,” quickly sparked public outrage.

Under the Child’s Rights Act of 2003, every child is entitled to freedom from physical and emotional harm, yet advocates say enforcement remains weak. The teenager’s plight has prompted urgent calls for the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to rescue her and prosecute the alleged abuser.

Although, no official statement has been released by authorities as of now. The 15-year-old now represents thousands of Nigerian children who have no direct, confidential channel to report abuse without fear.
