Japan Discussing Details of Day Care for All Infants

Japan’s Children and Families Agency is developing a new program to provide universal daycare services for infants aged 6 months to 2 years, regardless of parental employment status. Set to launch fully by fiscal 2025, discussions are underway regarding usage times, fees, and subsidies for participating facilities. Trials are ongoing, with plans to expand nationwide by fiscal 2026. The initiative aims to combat parental isolation, promote child development through social interaction, and address operational challenges such as staffing and sustainability in daycare centers.
