This shortage is causing frustration among parents, who worry that students with special needs, like Karina De Salcedo’s son Julian, are not receiving the support they need. Former Special Education teacher Hope Butterfield notes that the district has long struggled with staffing shortages in this area, affecting both students and teachers. Without adequate specialized staff, students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), which are legally required for those with disabilities, may fall further behind. Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins acknowledges the current staffing issues within the district.
