MSCS has Nearly 500 Teacher Vacancies Ahead of School Year

< 1 min read

As Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS) prepares for the new school year, nearly 500 teacher vacancies remain unfilled. New Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins is addressing this issue by transferring office staff to fill some gaps and plans to discuss the district’s preparations at Tuesday’s board meeting. Additionally, Feagins has highlighted a problem with overtime abuse, costing the district about $1 million. A proposed policy would require advance approval for overtime to address this issue. School Board Commissioner Keith Williams has raised concerns about the specifics of overtime payments and their impact on teachers.
