In Hillsborough County, nearly 900 school buses will soon be equipped with cameras to enhance safety after discovering that an average of three cars per bus ignore stop signs daily, totaling about 2,580 violations each day. Parents, like Diamond Wilson, express concern for their children’s safety due to these frequent violations. BusPatrol, a stop-arm enforcement technology provider, is installing cameras on all HCPS buses to capture footage of vehicles that illegally pass stopped buses. The cameras can record up to eight lanes of traffic and work with an AI engine to gather evidence. Violations are reviewed by the Sheriff’s office, and offenders will receive notices of violation by mail.
