St. Louis Mayor Requests Audit of Saint Louis Public Schools

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones has requested an audit of Saint Louis Public Schools (SLPS) due to significant challenges, including a budget deficit, transportation problems, and staff departures. The district’s budget has shifted from a $17 million surplus to a $35 million deficit. The Missouri Auditor’s Office confirmed receipt of the request but has not yet provided details on the audit’s scope or timeline. Additionally, the Coalition with STL Kids is pushing for a comprehensive audit of the district’s finances, operations, and governance. They plan to formally announce their call for the audit on August 13, ahead of the new school year starting on August 19.
