Amanda Gillispie, a former teaching assistant at Charleston County School District, is suing the district after being fired. Gillispie alleges she was terminated in retaliation for reporting abuse by Drayton Hall Elementary teacher Karen Moore. She initially reported the abuse in September 2023 and again in May, detailing physical mistreatment and aggressive behavior by Moore. Gillispie was removed from Moore’s classroom but later reinstated. She claims her termination was a pretext to dismiss her for reporting the abuse. The district confirms Moore is no longer employed, but has not yet been served with the lawsuit. The criminal case against Moore is currently inactive, and several lawsuits by parents alleging abuse are still pending.
