Kwara State Govt Shuts Down Two Schools Over Violent Student Clash

The Kwara State Government has announced the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta, Ilorin, within the Ilorin West Local Government Area.
This decisive action follows a violent clash between students of the two neighbouring schools that occurred on Wednesday morning.
In a statement released late Wednesday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, the state’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, issued the closure directive during a briefing at the ministry’s headquarters in Ilorin.
According to the statement, all students are to stay away from the school premises until further notice. However, an exception has been made for students currently sitting for the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), as well as the teachers supervising the exams. These individuals will be permitted entry upon presenting proper identification.
The commissioner emphasized that students involved in the SSSCE must wear their identification cards while coming to the school. Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure that their children and wards remain at home during this period.
Dr. Olohungbebe also warned that any student who violates the directive will be apprehended by security personnel stationed at the schools.
The closure is aimed at restoring order and ensuring the safety of students and staff following the unrest. Authorities have yet to disclose when the schools will reopen.
