It’s not easy being a new dad in Britain. The UK’s statutory paternity leave is just two weeks, making it one of the least generous in Europe, and it looks just as meagre when stacked up against the rest of the developed world (Japanese dads, for example, have the option to take a full year of paid leave). In the UK, fathers get a maximum of £187.18 per week during their time off, which won’t get you very far when feeding, clothing and generally trying to keep alive a newborn baby.
