The FCT Police Commissioner has confirmed the shocking arrest of a security guard, David Moses, who confessed to the kidnapping and murder of a 14-month-old pupil, Nanenter Asher Yese, and a school nurse, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, at Clear Hope School in Dawaki, Abuja.

The affected persons were declared missing on July 23, 2025, after which a ransom demand of ₦250 million was made using the nurse’s phone. Despite already killing them, the suspects later collected ₦3 million from the family under the pretense that they were still alive.

David Moses, deployed to the school by a private security firm, confessed to planning the crime with an accomplice, Sunday Irimiya (currently at large). In a chilling revelation, Moses described how the nurse was strangled, and the child was later killed for fear that the ransom would be insufficient.

Shockingly, the security company admitted to not properly documenting Moses’ employment or verifying his background, a gross failure of due diligence and safety oversight.

This horrifying case underscores a total failure of the systems meant to protect children, especially within educational spaces. The child’s right to life was taken in the most brutal way. She was denied the right to protection from violence, abuse, and neglect, and robbed of her right to survival and development.

The act of kidnapping her for ransom violated her right to be protected from kidnapping and exploitation. Most disturbingly, the crime happened in a school, a place that should be safe, thereby breaching her right to safety in educational settings.
