India Teacher Allegedly Burns 5-Year-Old With Heated Knife for Wetting Himself in Class
The incident has reignited worries about child protection and safeguarding in schools, prompting an investigation by police in Uttar Pradesh, India, where the child was five years old when she was allegedly burned by a teacher at a nursery school.
Police said the incident took place at a private school in Pandeypur in Varanasi. The child reportedly requested to use the toilet from his teacher, but he was allegedly refused. The teacher allegedly took the boy to another room and burned him with a heated knife, physically assaulted him and told him not to do it again after he peed on his clothes.
The child’s family told police about the abuse when the boy returned home and told them what had happened. An investigation is now in progress.
Police have filed a case against the teacher, the school principal and the school management under the provisions of the criminal law in India that pertain to causing harm with a dangerous object and criminal intimidation.
The incident serves as a reminder that positive discipline and safe school environments are crucial for children’s protection, emphasizing the need to treat children with dignity and compassion. Child rights groups emphasize that no child should be subjected to violence or humiliation over accidents like toilet training, especially when they are young and still learning to control their bladders and emotions.
