No Matriculation List, No Admission — JAMB Warns Institutions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a warning that it will not approve admissions for the 2024 and 2025 academic sessions in any tertiary institution that fails to submit its matriculation list.

The directive follows a standing order from the Federal Ministry of Education, which, a few years ago, made it mandatory for all tertiary institutions to submit these lists to JAMB as part of efforts to curb the persistent issue of illegal admissions.

Speaking at a meeting with Admission Desk Officers, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated that “Institutions, which fail to submit their matriculation list for the 2022 and 2023 admissions, should not have their admissions approved for the 2024 and 2025 admission exercises.”

He explained that while some concession would be given for 2024 admissions, since a few schools were still finalising the process, such leniency would end immediately after the current admissions conclude.

Prof. Oloyede further warned that “erring institutions” would face sanctions and be made “scapegoats,” with penalties to be announced in due course.

Institutions in breach will be summoned for meetings, while affiliate schools will appear alongside their parent institutions. JAMB will also publish public notices in national newspapers to alert the public of such defaults.

By tightening compliance on matriculation list submission, JAMB aims to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s admissions process, ensuring that every admission is lawful and transparent.

Education, as a fundamental right, thrives only when access is guided by fairness, due process, and respect for established regulations, principles that safeguard every student’s legitimate pathway to learning.
