Owen Cooper, 15, Makes Emmy History as Youngest Male Winner

Owen Cooper, just 15 years old, has made history as the youngest male winner of an acting Emmy. The rising star earned the award for his breakout role in the British drama Adolescence, which captivated audiences worldwide after its Netflix release earlier this year.
Cooper beat seasoned actors, including Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent) and Rob Delaney (Dying For Sex), to claim the prestigious honor.
On stage, the Warrington-born teenager humbly reflected: “Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple of years back, I didn’t expect to even be in the United States, never mind here. But I think tonight proves that if you listen, focus, and step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life.”
His castmates, Erin Doherty and Stephen Graham, also took home awards, contributing to Adolescence’s stunning five-win sweep at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
Adolescence, Cooper’s first TV role, tells the gripping story of a 13-year-old boy arrested for the murder of a classmate. Following its runaway success, Cooper has been cast in Film Club (BBC) and will portray Young Heathcliff in a new Wuthering Heights adaptation.
Cooper’s historic win echoes Roxana Zal’s 1984 achievement when she became the youngest Emmy winner at 14. Speaking after his victory, he said the award “means a lot to me” and dedicated it to the entire Adolescence team.
