Two Children Drown in Separate Well Incidents in Kano

A tragic incident has occurred in the Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area of Dala Local Government Area, Kano State, where a six-year-old boy, Ahmad Abdurashid, drowned after falling into a well on Wednesday morning.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, an emergency call was received from Abubakar Sadiq at about 10:02 a.m.
The agency immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene. Unfortunately, the boy was brought out of the well dead and was handed over to his father, Abdulrashid, of Dandishe Quarter. Abdullahi noted that the investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
He further cautioned residents to properly cover their wells and avoid digging open wells, especially along roadsides in rural communities, to prevent similar tragedies.
In a separate incident, an eight-year-old girl drowned on Tuesday morning in a well at Kashirmo Village by Sarkakiya, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to Abdullahi, the fire service received a distress call from Kabiru Abdullahi at about 8:53 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of rescue personnel.
Though she was pulled from the well with what responders described as divine intervention, she was later confirmed dead. Her remains were handed over to the Ward Head of Kashirmo Village, Abdullahi Garba.
These recurring tragedies have raised deep concern among authorities and residents.
These incidents reflect the urgent need to ensure children’s right to life and safety. Properly covering wells, monitoring children, and eliminating open water hazards are essential steps toward preventing further loss of young lives. Authorities, communities, and families must work together to ensure children’s safety.
