WAEC Releases 2026 First Series Computer-Based WASSCE Results, Thousands of Candidates Record Credits

The West African Examinations Council has released the results of the 2026 first series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates, recording a marginal improvement in performance compared to the previous year.

According to the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola F. Adesina, a total of 10,480 candidates sat for the examination conducted across 166 centres in Nigeria between January 28 and February 14.

Out of the total candidates, 3,429 representing 32.72 per cent obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. The figure reflects a 5.76 per cent increase compared to the 26.96 per cent pass rate recorded in the 2025 first series.

Adesina also disclosed that 43 candidates with special needs participated in the examination, including visually impaired candidates, candidates with hearing impairments, and albinos, all of whom received appropriate support during the exercise.

She noted that 8,418 candidates, representing 80.32 per cent, have had their results fully processed, while 2,062 candidates still have some subjects pending due to errors attributed to the candidates.

The council further stated that the results of 75 candidates, representing 0.72 per cent of the total, have been withheld over reported cases of examination malpractice. Investigations into these cases are ongoing, with findings expected to be reviewed by the appropriate committee of the council.

Candidates have been advised to check their results via the council’s official website and access their digital certificates, which have been released alongside the results.

WAEC said the marking and coordination of scripts were carried out at designated venues in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna, with 608 examiners participating in the exercise between February 26 and March 13.
