Sunday Dare Gifts Freed Oyo Schoolchildren ₦50,000 Each as Recovery Begins

The 56-day-old captives of the freed schoolchildren of Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State have received ₦50,000 each from the special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, as they continue their recovery.
The donation was made on Tuesday to 25 pupils who were medically stabilised and brought home after their treatment at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. Dare also guaranteed the remaining 14 pupils would be treated in the same manner when they are finished with their medical treatment and leave the hospital. He also advanced financial aid to the teachers receiving treatment who were affected.
The visit Dare made, he expressed sympathy with the children, teachers and their families and said their situation was very unfortunate. He congratulated security agencies for defeating their captors and reiterated the Federal Government’s promise to enhance security and keep children safe from violence and abduction.
On the 15th day of May 2026, the children along with six teachers were abducted by the armed group who raided three schools in Oriire Local Government Area. They were freed on 10 July and have been getting medical treatment and psychosocial support.
While financial support can alleviate urgent family needs, long-term mental health care, family support, safe schools and reintegration services are vital for helping children recover from the experience of captivity and return to school safely, child protection advocates say.
