Nigerian Students Crowned World’s Best in English, Maths, Inspire Fresh Push for Every Child’s Right to Quality Education

The remarkable success of two Nigerian students at the 2025 Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations has highlighted the importance of protecting every child’s right to quality education and opportunities to reach their full potential.

Akota-Chika Serena of Caleb-British International School (CBIS), Magodo, Lagos and Tolulope Israel Adekimi of the same school who performed the best in English Language and Mathematics respectively, won the prestigious Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award as the best performers on the global arena.

Their success is a testament to the power of quality education, effective teachers and nurturing school environments in preparing children for success in the global arena. The students attributed their success to their teachers’ dedication and the emphasis placed on student care and learning.

CBIS’s management reports that the school integrates the Nigerian and British curricula and uses innovative pedagogical approaches, such as technology-based learning, to foster children’s talents and confidence. The school also gives great importance to character building, creativity and leadership.

The achievement is based on the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which states that all children have a right to education that builds their personality, abilities and talents to the fullest.

The students’ achievements should inspire increased investment in inclusive quality education in Nigeria, and empower all children regardless of their background to learn, excel and make meaningful contribution to national development, the child rightists argue.
