Abia Father Arrested After 13-Year-Old Son Found Tied Up, Beaten and Left Under Scorching Sun

Police in Abia State have arrested a man after his 13-year-old son was allegedly stripped, tied up and beaten in Aba, raising concerns about the child’s safety and welfare.

The Abia State Police Command, which identified the suspect as the teenager’s biological father, Uzoma Uwaeme, said the man was a known criminal. The arrest came after a video was posted on social media showing the child bound with ropes, injured and exposed to the harsh weather conditions, police said.

The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, directed the officers of the Abayi Divisional Police Headquarters to search and arrest the suspect at his house in Nwokocha Street off Udeabara Road, Aba.

The teen has since been removed from the situation and placed under medical care. The child is in stable condition and is being kept under police protective custody, police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka said.

The case has been turned over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and the suspect is being held in police custody.

Afolabi condemned the alleged abuse, calling it a “gross violation of the child’s rights. He also reiterated the command’s stance on child abuse and domestic violence, stating the suspect would be charged under the law.

Police asked the public to immediately contact the police if they suspected any child abuse.

The incident follows months of police arrest of a couple who allegedly beat a 10-year-old boy in their custody.
