Anambra Woman in Police Custody After Alleged Flogging of 12-Year-Old Boy to Death

A 47-year-old woman who allegedly flogged a 12-year-old pupil to death in Anambra State has surrendered to the police while police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the child.

Mrs. Dim Ebere reportedly turned herself in at the Neni Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area following a manhunt by the Anambra State Police Command’s Safe School Protection Squad and officers from the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for further investigation.

The incident has brought new questions to the forefront of child protection, discipline and the importance of creating a safe learning environment that shields children from harm. Authorities have emphasized the need to make sure children are not exposed to violence or life-threatening situations when they are disciplined.

The incident was reported to police who responded and rushed the child to hospital where he was confirmed dead, police said. His body has been left at a morgue for an autopsy.

Police have pledged to the family of the deceased child and the public that a proper investigation will be carried out to get to the truth and bring those responsible to justice. The command also advised residents to keep calm and cooperate with legal procedures.
