Boy, 14, Loses Court Case After Parents ‘Tricked Him’ Into a Boarding School in Ghana

A 14-year-old boy has lost a High Court case after suing his parents for sending him from London to a boarding school in Ghana—a decision they made out of fear for his safety.
The boy argued that he was tricked into traveling, believing it was to visit a sick relative, only to find himself enrolled in a school where he felt isolated and mistreated. He reached out to the British High Commission and a child welfare charity, pleading to return to the UK.
However, the court ruled in favor of his parents, who stated they made the decision out of love and concern. They feared he was being groomed into gang culture, citing warning signs like unexplained money, expensive clothes, and an interest in knives.
His father expressed the painful reality behind their choice: “We did not want our son to be yet another teenager stabbed to death in London.” Despite the ruling, the case sheds light on the difficult choices parents make to protect their children from violence and exploitation.
