Four Children Among Nine Killed as Bandits Storm Kaduna Village in Night Attack

No fewer than nine people, including four children, were killed when suspected bandits attacked Ungwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, late Tuesday night.

The attack, which occurred around 11 p.m., also left 11 residents injured, according to local security officials and community sources.

The Administrator of the Kikoba/Kizako Joint Taskforce, Daniel Dodo, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the assailants stormed the village under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically and attacking residents.

He explained that the attackers caused widespread panic, leaving behind a trail of deaths, injuries, and destruction. Residents said many families were thrown into mourning as survivors attempted to rescue the injured amid the chaos.

Those killed included men, women, and children. The victims were identified as Jerry Doctor (51), Danlami Magani (49), Sunday Chibi (53), Rita Abdullahi (45), Sunday Elkan (5), Esther Kefas (5), Happy Friday (6), Moses Daddy (4), and Daddy Ibrahim (28).

The injured, who include children and elderly persons, are currently receiving treatment, though many remain in critical condition.

Community leaders have called on the federal and state governments to urgently strengthen security presence in vulnerable areas of Kauru Local Government Area. They also demanded improved intelligence gathering, increased patrols, and faster emergency response to prevent further attacks.

Residents further appealed for medical assistance, humanitarian support, and psychosocial care for survivors affected by the incident.

The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Southern Kaduna, where repeated violent incidents have displaced families and heightened fear among rural communities.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
