GLOBAL CHILDREN SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH

Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke: Rewriting Possibility, One Mile at a Time

On April 2, 2026, as the world marked Autism Awareness Day, a remarkable 16-year-old Nigerian rode into Lagos after completing a 687-kilometre journey from Enugu. His name is Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke and he is steadily redefining what the world believes is possible for children on the autism spectrum.

Already a Guinness World Record holder for creating the largest art canvas by an individual, Kanyeyachukwu is no stranger to global recognition. His art first introduced him to the world; bold, expressive, and expansive. But this time, he chose a different canvas: the open road.

Through the campaign #RideWithKanye: “Impossibility Is a Myth,” Kanyeyachukwu embarked on a cross-country cycling expedition that would take him through multiple Nigerian states; Enugu, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Ogun, and finally Lagos. It was not just a physical challenge; it was a powerful message carried mile after mile: that autism is not a limitation of possibility, but a call for understanding.

Supported by the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Society Foundation, alongside key partners including the Lagos State Government, the National Sports Commission, and the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, the journey quickly became more than a personal milestone. It evolved into a national movement.

At every stop along the route, the campaign created moments of engagement, bringing conversations about autism into communities, connecting families to support, and shifting public perception from silence to awareness.

When he finally arrived in Lagos, he was received by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, marking a defining moment not just for Kanyeyachukwu, but for the broader message he represents. It was a moment of recognition for courage, for resilience, and for a young boy who refused to be defined by limits.

What makes Kanyeyachukwu’s story truly compelling is not just the distance he covered, but the meaning behind it. His journey was driven by a vision to raise awareness and support for children like him, including a mission to help train caregivers across Nigeria with the skills needed to better support autistic children.

In a world where children with autism are too often misunderstood or overlooked, Kanyeyachukwu stands as a powerful reminder of what can happen when potential is nurtured and given space to thrive.

He is not just riding across states, he is riding across assumptions.

And with every kilometre, he is leaving behind a clearer path for others to follow.
