Parents, Students Await JAMB Cut-Off Decision as Admission Fate Hangs on May 11 Meeting

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will hold its 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions on Monday, May 11, where key decisions, including the minimum cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), will be determined.

The meeting has placed millions of parents and prospective university students across Nigeria on alert, as the outcome will shape admission chances into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the next academic session.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the policy meeting will take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium in Abuja and will bring together major stakeholders in the education sector.

The annual gathering is expected to set admission guidelines, including UTME score benchmarks and institutional requirements, which tertiary institutions must follow in the upcoming admission cycle.

Participants will include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers, alongside regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, is expected to present key policy directions during the meeting, while other agencies, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Service Corps, will also deliver goodwill messages.

The meeting will also feature the 6th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards, aimed at improving compliance and raising standards in the admissions process.
