Lagos DSVA Places 8-Year-Old Child in Protective Care After Alleged Abuse Incident

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has placed an 8-year-old child in protective care following an alleged abuse incident in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.

The agency shared details of the case on its official social media platforms on Friday, June 19, 2026, explaining that it activated its response process after receiving the report.

According to the DSVA, the child was rescued after concerned community members noticed physical injuries and stepped in to provide help. The child was taken for urgent medical attention.

Preliminary findings showed that the alleged incident involved the child’s biological mother. Authorities said the child was reportedly injured during an incident linked to an accusation of missing money.

Following the report, the alleged perpetrator was arrested while relevant authorities began investigations and legal proceedings.

The case was brought before a Magistrate Court in Lagos State on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. During the proceedings, the court ordered that the child and a sibling be moved to an approved child protection facility.

The defendant was granted bail under specific conditions, while the matter was adjourned until July 23, 2026, for further hearing.

DSVA praised the quick response of community members, law enforcement officers, and child protection stakeholders who helped ensure the child’s safety.

The agency also restated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ending child abuse and protecting children from harm.

Members of the public were encouraged to report suspected cases of child abuse through official channels, as child safety remains a shared responsibility.
