My dear son, as I got you ready for bed this morning, amidst our prayers and your favorite lullaby, following a beautiful watchnight service, it occurred to me to write you this memo. Today, January 1, 2025, marks the beginning of Generation Beta, which will span until December 31, 2039. As the name suggests, it is a generation driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Internet of Things, and technology propelled by the power of new media. This generation envisions virtual reality becoming the default “real world,” potentially relegating the physical world to an unnecessary alternative.
You were born three years before the end of what was labeled Generation Alpha. Now, as Gen Beta begins during your formative years, you stand at the intersection of two generations. By the time this generation concludes, you will still be a child, though a teenager of 17 years. It is vital, therefore, that I share with you, as your father, what I believe about these human-defined generations and the eternal, timeless generation to which I believe you belong.
