Oyo School Abduction Enters One Month as Makinde Calls for Urgent Police Action

A month after the Oyo school abduction, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called for stronger collaboration between the state government and the Nigeria Police Force to secure the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. His appeal comes as the abduction reaches one month.
Makinde made the call on Monday while receiving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Olatoye Fayoade, in Ibadan. He described the situation as deeply painful for families and the wider community.
The governor stressed the need to strengthen child protection systems in schools. He said learning environments must remain safe and free from fear.
“Today marks exactly one month since the children and their teachers were abducted,” Makinde said. He described the incident as traumatic for the state.
In addition, he called for sustained cooperation between security agencies and government. He urged the police to identify areas that need further support. This, he said, would improve rescue operations and prevention efforts.
Makinde also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies. He noted that better coordination can help protect vulnerable communities.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police assured that efforts to rescue the abducted persons are ongoing. He said security presence across Oyo State has been strengthened. This aims to prevent further attacks.
Religious and community leaders have also continued to demand urgent action. They are calling for the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
Furthermore, they emphasised the need for stronger protection of schools nationwide. The incident has renewed concerns about child safety in education settings.
The situation has intensified calls for improved security measures to protect children and ensure safe access to education.
