Ransom demands have reportedly emerged in the Oyo school abduction crisis, heightening fears for the safety of abducted students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
Suspected gunmen who abducted 39 students and seven teachers in Ahoro-Esinle community are said to have made contact with negotiators. Security sources indicate that discussions are ongoing, although the amount demanded has not been disclosed.
The development has increased pressure on both families and authorities. Relatives of the victims are calling for urgent action, as uncertainty grows over the fate of those still in captivity.
The crisis has also taken a tragic turn following confirmation that one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was killed during the attack. His family has written to President Bola Tinubu, requesting the recovery of his remains for burial.
Security agencies have intensified rescue operations across affected forest areas. The police, military, and Department of State Services (DSS) are jointly coordinating efforts to track the abductors and secure the release of victims.
