The management of Wisdom Gate International School in Eligbolo, Rivers State, has appealed to the government to lift the suspension placed on its operations following the death of a two-year-old pupil, Winnie Akakue, whose fatal injuries were reportedly caused by a collapsing bookshelf in a classroom. The request comes amid ongoing grief, public concern, and heightened scrutiny over child safety standards in early childhood education settings.
The incident has already triggered a broader child protection and safeguarding investigation into the school’s duty of care, particularly in relation to classroom safety, supervision of very young children, and the management of preventable hazards within learning environments.
