17-year-old Perry student killed sixth-grader, wounded 7 in school shooting

February 8 2024- A 17-year-old student opened fire at Perry High School in Iowa on the first day back after winter break, killing an 11-year-old sixth-grade student and wounding seven others. The shooter, identified as Dylan Butler, used a pump-action shotgun and a small-caliber handgun. Authorities have not provided information on a motive. Among the injured victims is Perry High School principal Dan Marburger. The other victims, including four students and three school staff members, have not been publicly identified. The incident led to students barricading themselves in offices, seeking refuge in classrooms, and fleeing in panic.
