65 Northern Schools Shut as HURIWA Warns Insecurity Is Derailing Children’s Education

Sexty-five (65) schools have been reported to be closed or made non-functional in the North of Nigeria due to insecurity, with concerns that the extended closure will affect children’s learning and development. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) stated that the closures were depriving thousands of children of regular access to education and exposing them to various risks including child labour, child marriage, trafficking and recruitment by criminal and extremist groups.
