Childcare providers say many centers serving ‘childcare deserts’ will close due to newly-adopted state regulations

Newly adopted changes to Oklahoma childcare regulations, which were given the green light by Gov. Kevin Stitt this week, have childcare providers across Oklahoma warning of widespread closures, particularly in low-income and rural areas already struggling with limited childcare options.

Amber Garber has always felt called to childcare.

“When my children were little, I was one of those parents that it worried me sending my children to someone I didn’t know,” Garber said. “So I decided to open a home, childcare.”
