It’s a curious fact of family life that parents spend many years trying to shield our offspring from swear words.
It’s not easy – it’s been scientifically proven that cursing loudly after stubbing a toe has a hypoalgesic effect, increasing pain tolerance and pain threshold while reducing pain perception.
Instead, we resort to “shhhhut the front door”, the tried and tested “sugar” and my personal favourite “Fffffun Boy Three” until self-censorship becomes second nature.
