Department of Education announces new measures to scrutinize funds to Virginia schools

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) told 7News it placed five Northern Virginia school districts on high-risk status and reimbursement payment status for violating Title IX and keeping their existing transgender locker room and bathroom policies. The U.S. Department of Education said, as a result of the school districts’ rejection of the Resolution Agreement, the Department is commencing administrative proceedings seeking suspension or termination of federal financial assistance to the divisions. The department said to ensure federal funding is not being used on “illegal activity,” the school districts will be placed on reimbursement status for all department funds, including formula funding, discretionary grants, and impact aid grants, totaling over $50 million.
