January 12 2024- Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) are facing a significant issue of high absenteeism, as reported by A+ Schools, a local non-profit aiming to enhance education quality. The annual report for the 2022-2023 school year reveals that 34% of PPS students were chronically absent, with over 6,000 students missing 10% or more of enrolled days. The report acknowledges efforts to address this problem, citing a 16% reduction in chronic absence after the implementation of Everyday Labs interventions in partnership with A+ Schools and PPS. The Executive Director of A+ Schools, James Fogarty, emphasized ongoing collaborative efforts to improve attendance despite the challenges.
