The United Nations (UN) has reported that about 5.9 million Nigerian children are currently experiencing a severe food and nutrition crisis, the highest number globally. UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Mohammed Fall, highlighted this during the launch of the 2024 Lean Season Food Security and Nutrition Crisis multi-sector plan. He emphasized the dire situation, particularly in the North-Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe, where 700,000 children under five are malnourished. The new plan aims to complement government efforts in food assistance, health, water, and sanitation to address the crisis comprehensively.
