The population of street children in Cross River State, particularly primary and secondary school dropouts, is growing, with some leaving home at a young age and never attending school. Referred to as “skolombo,” these children are commonly found in areas with nightlife and fast food joints, such as the Marian axis and Cultural Centre along the Muritala Muhammad Highway. They face various forms of abuse, including sexual assault, molestation, and child labor, with some becoming victims of ritualists. Many of these children have never received medical attention and rely on luck to survive.
