School Board Approves Funding for over a Dozen New Hanover Co. Schools Jobs

< 1 min read

At its meeting on October 1, the New Hanover County Board of Education approved over $1.1 million to fund more than a dozen positions in county schools. Interim Superintendent Dr. Christopher Barnes outlined that $1,126,463.14 will be used for hiring 13 special education teacher assistants, a split assistant principal for two elementary schools, a sixth counselor at Laney High School, and two bus aides. An additional $226,564.34 will fund stipends and special education teacher allotments. The surplus funding stems from a $2.3 million unassigned fund balance, primarily due to the freezing of vacancies and faster-than-expected attrition. The board unanimously approved the recommendation.
